Meet the Bellringers
Melbourne Parish Church has one of the only two rings of twelve bells in the Derby Diocese and are rung from the chancel crossing. The history and details of the bells are given here.
Sunday Service ringing: 10.00 -10.30 am and 6.00-6.30 pm. Practice Night: Tuesday 7:25pm - 9.00 pm. The handbell ringers meet at 6:30pm in the church vestry.
At the Tuesday practice night we have a wide variety of levels of ringing, from rounds and call changes to Cambridge minor / major. You would be most welcome to join us, what ever your level or expertise. After the practice, we "retire" to the Bluebell for a sociable drink or two.
The Derby Diocesan Association holds a Twelve Bell Practice on the second Thursday each month. The bells are also available for peals, quarters and general ringing.
For a summary of our activities in 2015, please read the bellringers latest annual report.
Each year Melbourne ringers and friends spend 5 days on the Island of Lundy. Click here to read the review of the 2016 trip.
Here is a short clip that we have uploaded to YouTube. It was taken before one of the Sunday evening services. We are ringing on the back eight of the twelve bells. As it is linking to YouTube, it may take a few moments to load.
We also have a short clip of the handbell ringers, which we have also uploaded to YouTube. We practice in the church vestry at the same time as the tower bell ringing, which is why you can hear tower bells in the background!
