Stanton is a small village bounded by the river Trent at Swarkestone on the north and the parish of Melbourne to the south. The A514 runs to the side of the village and there is an half-hourly bus service to Melbourne or Derby during the day.

We are situated in the heart of the village, and have three services each month. We have an average attendance of 10-15 faithful members, split evenly between residents and non-residents of the village. The service pattern is:

1st Sunday - Morning Prayer 11am

2nd Sunday - Holy Communion 11am at Swarkstone

3rd Sunday - Morning Prayer 11am

4th Sunday - Holy Communion 11am

Coffee is served in the north aisle after services and people enjoy the opportunity for fellowship which this provides. Some of our congregation attend Swarkestone, with whom Stanton has a historical link, for Holy Communion on the second Sunday, Swarkestone’s only service of the month. Some of the Swarkestone congregation attend Stanton services.

Our special services are Harvest Festival, the Carol Service, and, more recently, a 4 parishes Holy Communion on Maundy Thursday, all of which are well attended with congregations of about 40.

The church building has a seating capacity of about 100, is attractive and constructed of local stone, the oldest part dating back to Saxon times. There are 2 Norman arches and the furniture is Victorian.  The building is in good repair. The work recommended in the last quinquennial report in August 2015 is in hand, with nothing too onerous outstanding.

The church stands in a small burial ground, which is still open, but with limited capacity.

Stanton by Bridge is a compact village with about 100 dwellings, 2 working farms and 300 inhabitants. The only facilities are the church and village hall. About 33% of the population is retired, about 8% are children 0-18 and the rest are of working age. Of the working population a broad range of professions and occupations are represented.
