The Choir

Melbourne Parish Church Choir is conducted by the church's Director of Music, Simon Collins, and is a dedicated group of around 20 people.

It has a busy schedule deputising several times per year in Cathedrals as well as maintaining a long choral tradition at Melbourne.

The Choir sings anthems at the weekly Parish Communion and choral settings on major feast days and festivals. There is also a monthly Choral Evensong, Compline after choir practice each term, carol services for Advent, Christmas, Epiphany and Candlemas, and a Passiontide Sequence of appropriate words and music each Passion Sunday.

There are occasional civic services as well as combined events with other invited choirs.

Repertoire, Robes, Residencies!

With this variety of services there is a large and varied repertoire of music from plainsong to MacMillan. The Choir has a growing reputation for high standards both locally and nationally due in part to undertaking Annual Cathedral Weekend Residencies at Winchester, Wells, York, Durham and Canterbury since 2007, alongside established cathedral daytrips (usually by coach). All of these weekends were very well received with many compliments for the Choir and invitations to return!

Practices are on Wednesday evenings at 7.45 pm.

The weekly bulletin contains Simon’s musical suggestions for the week reflecting the liturgical calendar.

We seek new members! Simon Collins would welcome enquiries from anyone interested in further details either via simon.e.collins@btinternet.com or on 01543 258777.
