The Friends of Melbourne Parish Church

The Friends of Melbourne Parish Church (The Friends) was formed in September 2003 with the aims of preserving this historic Norman church; improving and developing its facilities; connecting it with the wider community; and raising its profile nationally and internationally.

The organisation received charitable status in May 2004.

Since The Friends began, we have improved access into the church, made the pews more comfortable and provided modern and accessible kitchen, toilet and meeting facilities in neighbouring St. Michael’s House. Recently, we funded the renovation of Church House, adjoining the Rectory, improved security in the church through the provision of CCTV, and extended the building’s sound system.

We also worked with local authorities and Melbourne Hall to install a defibrillator in Church Square for the benefit of all visitors to this historic part of our town.

To raise funds and, just as importantly, to bring people into the building who may not have crossed its threshold before, The Friends put on a lively programme of talks, concerts, exhibitions and events every year, which we promote through regular membership newsletters.
