St Michael and St Mary's
is a Grade I listed Church of England parish church in Melbourne, Derbyshire.
We are a welcoming and inclusive worshipping community, part of a bustling rural town that can trace its history back to Roman times. Our worship is mostly a modern take on traditional liturgy, supported by a wonderful choir.
A peal of twelve bells, one of only two in Derbyshire, announces our services and special occasions to Melbourne’s growing population of around 6,000 people.
The building, dating from around 1133, has been described by historian Simon Jenkins as one of the finest Norman churches in the country.
We are part of the Melbourne Benefice, alongside our sister churches in Smisby, Stanton-by-Bridge and Ticknall.

Opening times
The Church is normally open from 9am to 5pm each day, closing a little earlier on Saturday afternoons between 3.30 and 4pm so that preparations can be made for the services the following day. Access is through both the North and South doors. There are blue ‘A’ boards outside when the church is open. You are welcome to look around our church between these times. There are various leaflets and guide books explaining some of the history of the church, our groups and what is on.
There are weekday services, and details can be found on our Church Services page.
On Sundays, we have services at 8am (Said Communion), 10:30am (Parish Communion) and 6:30pm (Evening Prayer - currently once per month). The church is normally open 20-30 minutes before the start of the service.
